Essence of Bhandari
Our caste name originated from the word Bhanda, meaning big ships in Sanskrit. Those who steered these ships were called Bhandaris during Chattrapati Shivaji's time. We were basically warriors who built naval vessels and were experts in naval warfare. Nar Bahadur Bhandari, a former chief minister of Sikkim, is a Bhandari.
